Papain

Papain is a strong proteolytic enzyme obtained from the latex of Carica papaya. Papain precursor protein contains 345 amino acid residues. Refined papain is soluble in water and insoluble in most organic solvents.

Applications of Papain:

  • Utilized in the production of cheese, beer, and certain fermented food products and meat tenderisation.
  • It is utilized in medications for indigestion, inflammation, and wound healing.
  • Exfoliating and rejuvenating ingredient in skin care products like facial cleansers, masks, and scrubs.
  • Whitening agent in toothpastes.
  • Helps remove dead tissue, promote new cell growth, and reduce the risk of infection.
