L-Glutathione is an antioxidant present in plants, animals, fungi, and some bacteria and archaea. It is composed of amino acids glycine, cysteine, and glutamic acid. It is the most abundant thiol in animal cells, ranging from 0.5 to 10mmol/L.
L-Glutathione is produced by the liver and involved in many body processes. It helps in repairing the damaged tissues, synthesizing important proteins and chemicals and plays a significant role in immune function.
It prevents damage to important cellular components caused by sources like reactive oxygen species, free radicals, peroxides, lipid peroxides, and heavy metals. It is required for efficient defence against plant pathogens such as Pseudomonas syringae and Phytophthora brassicae. Studies suggest that it is safe to intake up to 500 mg daily for up to 2 months for better results.
